In his current series – inspired by Caspar David Friedrich – Berlin-based photographer nostrokes merges photography, digital visualisation, and painterly aesthetics.
“The ‚Rückenfigur‘, an icon of German Romanticism, symbolizes a profound connection between humans and their surroundings. Translating the Romantic notions of isolation and reflection, as well as the duality of closeness and distance, into the present using contemporary technological tools is both exciting and challenging. In this project, when I don’t capture the image myself, I visualize it in my mind and ask the machine to bring it to life and make it tangible.”
nostrokes‘ prints, which are manually varnished at the final stage, achieve a striking emotional depth through transformation, as the authenticity of the photos gradually begins to blur. He effortlessly bridges the gap between analog photography and artificial painting.
